Flickr Grows Up: Navigation and UI Changes Coming Next Week

| | Comments (1)

On the FlickrBlog today George said changes to the navigation and user interface were needed because "As Flickr grew organically, the site became a little, well ... "rambly" over the years." So the rambly-ness is being addressed and changes are coming. And in a completely grown up responsibility vein Flickr is giving advanced warning about the changes.

Breaking with the grand Flickr tradition of just whipping the tablecloth out from underneath you, we thought it might be more polite to let you know that there are some changes coming, what that means for you and why we think it's better.

Hurray responsibility! There are a few changes that sound good in that boring and necessary kind of way but a few changes that sound super exciting and handy in the "this will make my Flickr experience better" kind of way.

New and Improved Organizr
They've overhauled the organizer and made it more flexible (yay) and much quicker (super yay to that).

Person Menu
The pink balloon is gone thankfully and instead you'll be able to mouse over anyone's buddy icon and get an ajax-y (web geek term for coolness that doesn't require reloading or going to another page) menu which lets you jump directly to their photos, profile, favorites and more.

More Photos

"In our continuing efforts to show you the millions of photos on Flickr, we've bumped up the number of photos you can see on most pages around the site. (And, when you're searching, you can toggle between seeing thumbnails or a larger version of each photo with some extra information.)"

Assuming of course that the Flickr team has paid attention to the things the make Flickr great (simple to understand and use, clean look and uncluttered feel) and just improved upon them then shiny, happy making changes ahead.
