This isn't a book about guns. It's a book about people. - Kyle Cassidy
Photographer Kyle Cassidy's upcoming book Armed America: Portraits of Gun Owners in their Homes looks absolutely incredible. The book won't be out until August 2007 but there is a generous selection of photographs and text from the book available online.

State of the Art reports "The Kiyosato Museum of Photographic Arts in Japan is once again soliciting submissions for its Young Portfolio 2007. Since 1995 the museum has been choosing a growing number of prints (289 last year) to buy and include in its permanent collection."
It sounds like a really wonderful opportunity for young photographers (under 35). The submission period is April 15-30, 2007.
Paul Shambroom is doing some interesting work in his series Homeland Security.
For my current project I am photographing training facilities, equipment and personnel involved in the massive government and private sector efforts to prepare for and respond to terrorist attacks within the nation’s borders. First responders and law enforcement officers train in large-scale simulated environments such as “Disaster City” in Texas and “Terror Town”, an abandoned mining community in New Mexico purchased with funds from the Department of Homeland Security. This work examines issues of fear, safety and liberty in post-9/11 America.
The October 3 issue of Newsweek has a great cover story on Annie Leibovitz and her new soon to be released book "A Photographer's Life." There is also a slideshow of some of her famous images and some personal, private images from her life, including a striking image of her late, um even though Newsweek doesn't use the term partner it's the only appropriate word I know here, so striking smage of her late partner Susan Sontag. The book features many more such images of her life and family. It's on my wishlist already.

Just because you've spent hundreds or thousands on your camera gear that doesn't mean you don't sometimes miss the old school simplicity of a Polaroid image. Chances are you don't own a Polaroid camera and you're not going to buy one but that's cool because there's an online tool that makes it really easy to fake that Polaroid magic.
