Excellent Travel Panoramas
December 20, 2006

Lee & Sachi spent 2006 traveling around the world. They documented their experiences in 29 countries both in words & images on their blog. The images include some breathtaking panoramic pictures. Well worth checking out.

See their Flickr feed for larger versions of the panoramas.

Giant St George’s Cross, made from cars
August 02, 2006

Jason Hawkes does amazing aerial photography. File Magazine is presenting a collection of his work and much of it is breathtaking. However I like this shot he took for a commercial advertising job of 400 Toyota Yaris cars making a giant St George's Cross. The effect is very cool.

Farm Worker

Farm Worker What a great shot. The green of the crop rows and the tiny worker in the corner are just mesmerizing.

Blow Up

Blow Up This is an incredibly beautiful sunset shot. The silhouetted pier and fisherman are just wonderful.

the haunted house

the haunted house

The colors, tone and mood in this photo are inredibe. The house doesn't look haunted to me though, it looks sad. The last rays of the sun just coming through off frame make me think of the house in happier times when it was inhabited with (hopefully) happy people. Now it's looks sad and alone, without even ghosts to keep it company.

cat close-up

Rumor has it that cat pictures are the most boring and cliched photos on all the internet. This one doesn't come close to falling into that category. The detail, sharpness and expression are incredible.

Be still, for just a moment

This is a gorgeous, peaceful moment preserved.

W. At the Helm

Nuke La Louche (great name, excellent movie) captured some great stuff from Mardi Gras parades, specifically the Knights of Chaos floats (hopefully I've got that right) that feature George W. Bush leading everyone into hell and Michael Brown, Kathleen Blanco and Ray Nagin stirring up toxic gumbo in the Super Dome. Biting social and political commentary in the midst of a party is just the way I like it.

Also, read this column by Chris Rose in the Times-Pacayune.

Great colors and shape. I *so* need to give night photography a go.

William Greiner
February 16, 2006

Today's "Needs Your Attention" shot isn't one shot at all. It's actually a photoblog by William Greiner, a photographer from New Orleans. The shots he publishes and his brief, sometimes emotional comments are striking.

St. Louis Riverfront

Another great shot from Joseph Holst using a cool technique that makes real objects (like say Busch Stadium) appear almost like miniature models.

Happy VDay

Happy VDay

I like this shot much better than more expected Valentine's shots. I mean this one has a heart but it's also got sand and surf. Maybe my boredom with winter is just taking over my brain.

This a great second "Needs Your Attention" shot. I absolutely love the tones and colors in it.

"Needs Your Attention" Shots
February 09, 2006

I look at a lot of photographs during the course of the day both on Flickr and on many, many photoblogs. I've been cultivating my list of Flickr contacts and photoblog subscriptions for well over a year now. My friend Jason pointed out that I should share the wealth and post photographs from blogs and Flickr that I find particularly good or interesting. A good idea I thought, and one that I should have thought of months ago since I enjoy Rannie's Hotshots over at photojunkie so much. So I'm calling the category "Needs Your Attention" since you should look these shots over. I know, I know it's egotistical of me to say that, based on my opinion and judgement, these shots are not only worthy of my time but yours also. Well, I'm just that kind of girl. I have good taste, you should trust me.

The first "Needs Your Attention" shot is The Lines Lead To... from Memory Motel. I love the colors and lines in this shot. Memory Motel is from Greenville, SC and I've been seeing a lot of rural decay and abandonment shots in his Flickr stream lately that have knocked my socks off. Very good stuff.
