Hoping to get a jump on Google and other competitors, Adobe Systems plans to release a hosted version of its popular Photoshop image-editing application within six months, the company's chief executive said Tuesday.
Adobe to take Photoshop online from News.com
Photoshop online? It's a very interesting prospect. Does it mean doom for upstarts like Picnik? Possibly since the Photoshop online service is going to be free. Though will the online Photoshop be too bloated with features to work quickly and easily online or be so powerful that it's overwhelming for new and low tech users? A better question is perhaps what does this mean for Google's Picassa? Does the Photoshop brand identity give Adobe the automatic leapfrog effect over Picassa? It will really depend on who Adobe is hoping to target. In any case it's a boost to photographers for there to be good competition in this arena and it's going to be fun to watch developments.
The SimCan is a very cool Film and Digital Camera Simulator that allows you to test out various apertures, shutter speeds, film speeds and camera shake and see the effects on actual photos. Wonder what f2.8 at 1/250 will look like? Have a look and see. Very cool tool.

Weblogs Inc's Digital Photography Weblog was shuttered today. The cryptic closing notice said the blog's end "fits right in with the evolution of Weblogs Inc." Weblogs Inc. tends to shut down blogs that don't grow as quickly or as strongly as they like no matter how good the content is or isn't. At least that's my impression.
I was never overly impressed with the Digital Photography Weblog because it seemed to have a bit of an identity crisis. First much of the content was British based such as notices about British specific contests or events etc. Nothing wrong with that per se but I can't think of any other pro blog company based in the states with that setup. Also it seemed hard pressed to find enough content to fit in the digital photography model. There are tons of digital photography content out there and tons more waiting to be written so I suspect the staff just didn't have the time and resources to tend to it.
It's a loss for the blog's regular readers to be sure but with a little searching (check Exposure's blogroll for example) they'll be able to find many photography and digital photography blogs and sites that will more than pick up the slack.

I saw this announcement on a couple photography groups and blogs and thought it looked quite interesting.
I wanted to tell you all about ShutterSeek.com - a new, free, community-driven photography news/resource site. ShutterSeek allows you to add photography-related posts regarding articles, events and products, rate posts and comment on posts. It should be fun and hopefully a useful resource for all of us photography lovers.Almost every view of the site has Atom and RSS feeds, so if you like a certain topic, you can subscribe to the feed for that section or tag.
For those of you who have a site dedicated to photography-related information, you can add in your feed(s) to ShutterSeek to be pulled into the Blogs section (and onto the front page if they are rated). As soon as more posts are added, a Tags section will be added with various tag clouds.
So, take a look, and if you know of an interesting photography article, product review or event, sign up and add a post about it! We are still testing things out, so if you find any bugs, or have any suggestions - let us know.
Cheers!
