Date Night

It's rare that we consciouly think about and plan a "date night." Most evenings we just spend time doing what needs or wants to be done and we hug and kiss and tease and love throughout. Last night was the same and it was the definition of perfect, simple pleasure.

We walked to the gym and played a vigorous round of H-O-R-S-E. Then I lifted weights while she hit the elliptical machine. After, we walked home to get Grace and took a family walk to Trader Joe's. B did a little shopping while Grace and I people watched. We started home as it was getting dark. We arrived just in time to sit on our balcony as real darkness enveloped the neighborhood and This American Life started on the radio. We enjoyed Mira Nair reading a Jhumpa Lahiri story and David Sedaris telling us about the boring lives but superior love of couples who have been together for many years as we indulged in the first watermelon of the season.
