Two Small Things I Want to Share With You

Dear Internet,

There are two, admittedly small and minor, things that have given me such joy of late that I want to share them with you.

The Earth, it has titled.
My office has a window that faces west, a glass door that faces south and a skylight directly over my desk. During the spring and summer I get a forced work break at around 1:30 because at that hour the sun beams brightly down through the skylight, so brightly in fact on really sunny days that I can't work with the intense light. I have to move or take a break for 15 minutes or so until the sun moves on a bit. During this time of year though that intense burst of light comes through my southern facing glass door at around the same time. It's at a different angle so it's not directly shining on me but it reflects up from the hardwood floor so powerfully the same result occurs (thought I do sometimes just close the shade on the door). This is such a small, small, minor thing but it gives me great pleasure to be in a position to notice and acknowledge the passing of the seasons in such a way. Its almost like I'm interacting with the sun and the earth and the seasons more than I have in the past. That sounds so "precious" doesn't it? I don't mind at all.

Where once there was one now now there is another
I went home to the farm yesterday for Sunday dinner with the family. And, in a nod to my conversion, my step mother made turkey instead of ham. Now, I'm not really eating meat at all but I had to have at least one piece because it was such a nice gesture. My family not having ham at a Sunday meal is not quite but almost unheard of. If food is love (and it is, make no mistake) then the absence of pork from the table for my benefit was an incredibly kind and loving gesture that I'll not soon forget.

Hope you are enjoying the fall Internet. Chat with you soon.

Love,
Michelle
